Police report that during an operation to curb liquor crimes, their attention was drawn to a man they say they found suspicious.

Police in Mitchell Plain are hailing their ‘back-to-basics’ approach to create a safe and secure environment for the Mitchell’s Plain community, following the arrest of a man who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police report that during an operation to curb liquor crimes, their attention was drawn to a man they say they found suspicious. He attempted to flee when he became aware of the attention on him.

In the process of fleeing, he was seen throwing a firearm into a yard in Renoster Street, Eastridge. A Taurus 9mm with eight rounds of ammunition was retrieved and confiscated.

The suspect, 20, was arrested and is scheduled to appear in court in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s court on Monday.
