Man gets 30 years for raping niece
A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for raping his 25-year-old mentally ill niece.
A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for raping his 25-year-old mentally ill niece.
The man was sentenced in the KwaDukuza Regional Court.
KwaZulu-Natal police said that the victim was living with the man and his wife in Hlomendlini area, Newark near Mandeni in 2012.
The victim did not inform anyone about the crime until she became pregnant. According to a police statement, "Family members questioned her and (she) told them that her uncle impregnated her."
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused.
“This will send a strong message to the would-be rapists who think of committing such crimes. We are putting extra efforts commitments when dealing with such crimes against women and children,” Langa said.
