A Western Cape police sergeant was shot in the face, during a shootout with a group of assailants at a Khayelitsha police station on Wednesday morning.
Local police have absolutely no idea why the attacks happened, and they were certainly caught off-guard after the suspects walked into station under the pretext that they were reporting a crime.
Just when police were preparing to assist and take statements, the suspects opened fire on the unsuspecting police who then retaliated. The shootout did not actually last that long, before the suspects fled the scene.
The South African police have since embarked on a massive manhunt for the suspects.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Khombinkosi Jula has condemned the attack. General Jula has assured that the perpetrators of this act will be brought to book and they will face the consequences.
“Police are there to protect communities. An act of this nature undermines the authority of the state,” said Lt General Jula.
