Four Umlazi robbers wounded by police in dramatic shootout

Four suspects were wounded, during a shootout with the South African Police at Kranskop in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

Four suspects were wounded, during a shootout with the South African Police at Kranskop in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

The shootout took place after an armed robbery at the local Kharodias Wholesalers, where the assailants made away with an estimated R52 000 in cash, cigarettes, airtime and a pistol that belonged to the wholesale manager.

However, police were quickly alerted to the robbery and closed in on the suspects.

“The suspects fled the scene in four gateway cars and fired several shots as they passed the police station en route to Kwadolo area which is within the Msinga precinct,” said the South African Police.

“The suspects were then pursued by SAPS members and massive air and ground supported operation was conducted. The following operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects at different houses, of which 4 were shot and wounded by SAPS members during a shootout,” added the police.

“The wounded suspects were treated on the scene by paramedics and three transported to hospital. One AK47 riffle, one shotgun, one revolver, three pistols, cash, cigarettes, airtime and nine cellular phones recovered from the suspects. Four vehicles which were involved in commission of crime were also recovered. It’s believed that all suspects are from Umlazi, Kwamashu and Msinga area.”
