The family confirmed that Shaheed Omar was killed in the hijacking in Lansdowne, Cape Town on Thursday.
The Muslim Judicial Council's Riad Fataar said that it is disheartening to see how crime is escalating in society.
"It is just becoming worse and worse when one sees the escalation of crime in our society," Fataar said.
Police Captain DC van Wyk confirmed that police are investigating a case of murder.
