Police in the Eastern Cape can pat themselves on the back following their foiling of a planned robbery on a well-known retail store in Cambridge, East London on Saturday.

Members of the Mdantsane cluster task team followed up on a tip-off, which led to the arrest of four suspects before they could carry out the robbery.

“The members swiftly followed up on intelligence information received that led to the speedy arrest of the suspects. Police confiscated a firearm with four rounds of ammunition, five cellphones, and a white Toyota Tazz,” police confirmed in a statement.

The suspects are set to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court next week. They face charges of attempted armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Major-General Henry Vos, commander of the Mdantsane cluster, commended the team for their quick action and vigilance in preventing a crime from occuring.
