Man accused of raping boys appears in court
A 23-year-old man appeared in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday, after he allegedly raped a number of young boys in Eldorado Park.
A 23-year-old man appeared in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday, after he allegedly raped a number of young boys in Eldorado Park.
Kelvin Thompson allegedly lured the boys to his home in the area by promising to give them a bicycle. The man raped eight boys, who were between the ages of eight and 13.
Thompson was arrested in August 2015. The crimes reportedly took place between 2014 and 2015, reports News24.
A mother of one of the victims says her son was raped when he was on his way home from school in 2015. She said she noticed something wasn't right and asked her son how his day was but the boy did not answer. She said she found this strange.
"He dropped off his school bag and sat on the couch. He told me that 'mama, something happened'. I noticed that his eyes were red. He said, when he came from school, he heard footsteps behind him. When he turned around he saw a boy coming. He greeted him, but this person took out a firearm and instructed him not to scream," the woman said.
The woman said her son cried while he explained what had happened to him.
Thompson is currently facing charges of sexual assault, rape and sexual grooming.
