The body of an Mpumalanga police officer, Sergeant Sthembile Mdluli, 37, whose family recently reported her missing, has been found near Sabie.
Police were led to her body by a man believed to be a friend of hers.
Preliminary findings indicate that the sergeant, attached to the White River vehicle crime investigation unit, had been kidnapped from Kabokweni and allegedly drugged before being taken to the bush where she was assaulted with unidentified objects until she died.
The suspect led police to her body following intense questioning.
Sergeant Mdluli’s car was found in the Kabokweni vicinity.
“One of the SAPS’s priorities is to put an end to police killings and to that end we have committed ourselves. We will ensure that anyone who kills a police officer faces the full might of the law,” Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma said, and expressed his condolences to her friends and family.
The suspect is expected to soon face murder charges in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.
