DA move to protect targeted Chabalala

The Democratic Alliance will provide Kingsol Chabalala with plenty of safety and security measures, after friends, family and colleagues expressed concern that the people who shot him will return to kill him.

The Democratic Alliance will provide Kingsol Chabalala with plenty of safety and security measures, after friends, family and colleagues expressed concern that the people who shot him will return to kill him.

Chabalala is a DA member of the provincial legislature in Gauteng – and it has been suggested that last week’s shooting was politically motivated.

The Emfuleni north constituency head is in intensive care, after he was shot three times. The incident happened in front of his wife and daughter at their home in The Vaal.

“It is not a random mugging or crime because the money would have been taken, but it wasn’t. To have R9,000 left untouched leaves a lot of questions,” Chabalala’s brother, Shakes, was quoted as saying by City Press.

“Fortunately, the bullet hit him just between his neck and shoulder. If you were to read his statements over the past months, you would be convinced that [the shooting] was politically motivated.”

DA leader in Gauteng, John Moodey, added: “Implicated in much of the corruption and maladministration unearthed is Emfuleni mayor Simon Mofokeng.

“This is the political climate as we approach 2019. The stakes are high, and we can expect an increase of intimidation and acts of violence.”
