Newly elected Democratic Alliance (DA) Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela on Saturday called out for the rollout of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to be accelerated.
Newly elected Democratic Alliance (DA) Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela on Saturday called out for the rollout of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to be accelerated.
Madikizela speaking to supporters outside Philippi-East Police Station said crime in the City’s Metro has reached warzone-like proportions.
A memorandum of demands was handed over by the DA Western Cape Youth members to officials at the police station.
Madikizela emphasised the need for the army to be deployed into the crime striken areas.
“The army must come in our communities because it’s a warzone.”
Carl Pophaim DA Cape Metro Youth leader told supporters of how crime has now held various communities hostage.
“We know what happened a few weeks ago in Marikana informal settlement, 11 people were murdered in one evening. We recognise that it was four months to the day that one of our local councillors was murdered. So the people are tired.”
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula recently requested the Defence and Military Veterans Department help with deploying the army in certain communities in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
President Jacob Zuma is said to have the final say as to whether or not the military will be deployed.
