Sangoma scams pensioner out of R1.2 million

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (also known as the Hawks) said that when the 61-year-old pensioner made the extremely large withdrawal, her bank thought it was suspicious because she had done it before.
Captain Anelisa Feni said that the bank manager alerted the Hawks after he became concerned.
"A manager at the bank got suspicious and contacted the Hawks to investigate the matter as that was not the first time the woman had made a huge withdrawal."
The Hawks arrived while the woman was still at the bank. The woman told them that she was getting money for her boyfriend and a traditional healer. They discovered that she had already gave the pair R1.2 million.
The pair were arrested and appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court on charges of fraud.
