A 70-year old grandmother in Willowvale, in the Eastern Cape, has died after her house was set on fire, Eastern Cape police confirmed on Sunday.
A 70-year old grandmother in Willowvale, in the Eastern Cape, has died after her house was set on fire, Eastern Cape police confirmed on Sunday.
The woman’s grandson found her burnt to death in her home in the Nkanku location in Chafutweni Village. He had come to visit her on Friday.
Police suspect an arson attack as the family reported smelling petrol when they arrived on the scene.
“The family of the deceased suspect that the house of the deceased was first doused with petrol before being set alight,” Captain Jackson Manatha said in a statement.
The motive for the attack is not known and police are calling on the public to come forward with information.
