State attorney and wife bust for bribery
The prosecutor is believed to have demanded a sum of R6 000 to make a case docket disappear from two suspects charged with possession of unlicensed firearms.
A state prosecutor and his wife have been arrested in Johannesburg on charges of corruption, the Hawks have confirmed.
The South African Directorate for Priority Crime, also known as the Hawks, confirmed that the prosecutor and his wife were arrested at a restaurant in Johannesburg.
“Both the suspects were arrested in a restaurant at Maponya Mall while they were in possession of the money,” spokesperson for the Hawks, Ndivhuwo Mulamu, said.
The prosecutor is believed to have demanded a sum of R6 000 to make a case docket disappear from two suspects charged with possession of unlicensed firearms. It is believed that the prosecutor’s wife received the money on his behalf.
The couple are scheduled to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
