Two life sentences for rape convict
The accused, Ayanda Sibusiso Sibiya, 30, was sentenced by the Pongola Regional Court on May 12 for rapes he committed in the Pongola area in May and August 2014.
A man has received two life sentences for two rapes he was convicted of committing in 2014.
The accused, Ayanda Sibusiso Sibiya, 30, was sentenced by the Pongola Regional Court on May 12 for rapes he committed in the Pongola area in May and August 2014.
Sibiya was accused of raping a 21-year-old female while she was on her way home in August 2014. He reportedly onto a school's premises, where repeatedly raped her at knifepoint.
He released her the following morning, after which she reported the crime and a case was opened. It was then transferred to the transferred to Ulundi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.
A few months later, Sibiya was arrested for a rape he had committed in May 2014. Police were then able to link Sibiya to the August 2014 rape case.
Major General Bheki Langa, KwaZulu-Natal acting Provincial Commissioner, praised the detectives on their persistence in solving the case.
"The accused will spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs since he had shown that he does not deserve to be within our community," he said.
