Alert public help police arrest hijackers

Thanks to alert bystanders, police in Nyanga were able to arrest hijackers shortly after they carried out their crime.

On Friday afternoon, a driver doing his rounds delivering a cargo of beds fell victim to a hijacking when two men pulled him from his vehicle and drove off with the cargo.

Alert bystanders who witnessed the incident contacted police immediately and a search of the area was carried out. The hijacked vehicle – minus the cargo – was spotted soon afterwards, and despite the driver’s attempt to escape, police were able to apprehend him.

He then led police to an address where police found the second suspect as well as the missing beds.

The suspects, aged 25 and 35, will appear in court on Monday on charges of hijacking and possession of stolen property.
